Day One

Arrive Athens, walk Monastiraki and the ancient Agora, find a rooftop bar at sunset

Monastiraki Square
Athens' most charismatic neighbourhood — ancient mosque, flea market, street food stalls and the ancient Agora ruins right behind it. Perfect first evening wander.
A for Athens Rooftop Bar
The best rooftop bar in the city — Acropolis view directly ahead, cocktails and mezze. Opens at sunset, gets crowded after 9pm. Worth the wait.
Thanasis Souvlaki
Athens' most famous souvlaki spot since 1960 in Monastiraki. The kalamaki and pita are essential. Queue at lunchtime, but fast service.

Diporto Agoras
Hidden basement taverna under the central market — no menu, no sign, just whatever the fishermen brought in today. The barrel wine is extraordinary. Cash only. Lunch only.
