Five spring days chasing Japan's cherry blossom peak — Tokyo's Meguro tunnel, Kyoto's Philosopher's Path, and a sunrise at Fushimi Inari before the petals fall.

The itinerary.

●
Ueno Park (Ueno Onshi Kōen)
1,000+ Somei-Yoshino cherry trees along the central path — Tokyo's most beloved hanami spot. Evening yozakura (night cherry blossom) lit by paper lanterns. Bring a tarp.
●
Tokyo National Museum
Inside Ueno Park — the Honkan gallery's special spring exhibits time their openings to the bloom. Free hanami garden in the back. tnm.jp
●
Shimbashi izakaya alley
Under-the-tracks salaryman warren — grilled yakitori, late-night ramen, plum-wine highballs. Order otōshi (cover charge snack) and you're a regular.
