Family-Friendly Trips — Multi-Gen Weekends That Actually Work
Family travel is the genre where bad planning costs the most — meltdown queues, restaurants without high chairs, museums where the kids end up watching iPads. The trips here are the opposite: places where there's something visual and active for kids every two hours, where dinner doesn't have to be the same place every night, and where the parents can still get a glass of wine on a terrace at sundown.
These 79 itineraries are the ones that hold up with kids 5–15 — Disneyland Paris done well, Rovaniemi's Santa village + huskies, Cappadocia's balloon-and-castle morning, Vermont fall foliage with covered-bridge stops every 20 minutes, Sicily's Etna jeep + beach combo. Each itinerary names the hotel with family rooms, the restaurants that welcome kids, and which museums have under-1-hour visits.
Some of these work as multi-gen trips (grandparents + parents + kids). Where they do, we say so.

Family travel — FAQ
Best family destinations in Europe?
For young kids (under 8): Disneyland Paris, Arctic Circle Rovaniemi, Copenhagen, Bergen. For older kids (8–15): Cappadocia, Pamukkale, Sicily, Norway fjords, Sevilla–Granada. Multi-gen: Lake Como, Bergen, Amalfi.
Are these too active for kids?
Most have one anchor activity (balloon, train, beach, theme park) and the rest open. Driving days are kept short (under 2 hours between stops). No multi-day hikes or expedition-level travel in this category.
When should we travel with kids?
Spring + autumn shoulder seasons (Apr–Jun, Sep–Oct) — fewer crowds, mild weather, lower prices. Summer school holidays push every destination into peak; book hotels 4+ months out.
What about stroller / wheelchair access?
Cobblestoned old-town destinations (Dubrovnik, Mardin, parts of Sevilla) are stroller-difficult. The itineraries flag the worst alleys. Modern transit cities (Copenhagen, Berlin, Reykjavik) are uniformly accessible.
Do hotels here offer connecting rooms?
The hotels we name (Maca Kızı, Hotel Bryggen Tracteursted, Suvretta House) have family suites or connecting rooms. We say so in each itinerary; book direct rather than through OTAs to get the family inventory.
